The confusion of Rock Paper
Rock Paper causes a great amount of confusion because it is different from what most of us typically think of as paper. Fear not, you can find the answers here to some of the questions we have received recently.
Rock Paper is not intended to replace the paper you are currently using, it’s intended as a fun new addition to add to your tool box. Think of it as a new partner to help stimulate your creativity in new and exciting ways.
The first and biggest confusion (or mind blowing) part of Rock Paper is that it’s made from rocks. Yes, you read that right the main ingredient of Rock Paper is in the name.
But, how is that possible?
Rock Paper is a mineral/calcium carbonate/rock based paper with a proprietary binding agent to hold it all together. This binder makes Rock Paper waterproof, gives it the ability to stretch, and makes it flexible.
What does it feel like?
Amazingly enough it feels similar to fiber/pulp based papers. Some sheets are very smooth and others have a slight texture.
So it’s waterproof and made from rocks, is it archival?
Yes! Rock Paper is also mildew and insect resistant. But keep it out of Sun light. Rock Paper will degrade by photodegradation if exposed to sunlight continuously.
Is Rock Paper toxic?
No, not even a little bit. Rock Paper is non-toxic and vegan friendly. But, Rock Paper should not be put in your mouth and you should never swallow it, just like all papers.
Does Rock Paper use dies and ink for its color?
No. The color you see in Rock Paper is a pigment added during the production process, unlike most fiber/pulp based papers who add color after it’s already made.
These questions are just the tip of the iceberg…Rockberg?… and we intend to answer more, but for now we hope this helps you decide to add Rock Paper to your creative projects.
